Behavior Policy
The Alfred Dickey Public Library strives to provide free and easy access to materials and services for all library patrons.
To this end, the Library has established these rules of conduct to promote a safe and healthy environment. The library staff shall make every effort to apply these rules in a fair, consistent, and positive manner for the benefit of all.
While in the library building, the following conduct is prohibited:
- Tobacco use in any form
- Consuming food or beverage
- Soliciting, selling, or campaigning
- Bringing in animals, other than certified assistive animals
- Physical, sexual, or verbal abuse of library users or staff
- Playing audio equipment loud enough to disturb others
- Drunkenness
- Not wearing shoes or shirt
- Stealing, destroying, or defacing library materials, furniture, or equipment
- Fighting
- Leaving young children unattended (see
Children's Use of the Library policy)
- Bringing guns, knives, or other weapons into the building
- Using roller or in-line skates, skateboards, or coasters in the library
- The making of noise, such as loud talking or shouting that is disruptive to others
- Boisterous behavior, such as running, throwing things, pushing, or shoving
Library staff will intervene to prohibit any of the activities or behaviors listed above. Violators will be asked to stop such activity immediately. If the activity/behavior continues, he/she will be instructed to leave the library. The police will be called for serious offenses or failure to leave the premises when instructed.
